Load capacity comes first
A higher mass and a higher centre of gravity put more strain on an SUV's tyres than on those of a car of similar size, especially when fully loaded and in corners. Choose at least the load index given in the registration details. The Load index and Load type filters help you rule out tyres whose capacity is not enough. Read more about load markings.
Road, all-terrain or off-road
If your SUV mostly runs on paved roads, a tyre designed for road use is the right choice. An AT (all-terrain) tyre has a tread that also handles gravel and light off-road use, but it is often noisier on tarmac. The Tyre purpose filter lets you pick out AT tyres. In Finland, a non-studded winter tyre must carry the 3PMSF marking on an SUV too, and M+S alone is no longer enough as of 1 December 2024. The exception is a POR-marked (Professional Off Road) tyre, which counts as a winter tyre without the 3PMSF marking. Read more in our 3PMSF guide.
