The right tyre for your car
The tyre sizes approved for your car are listed in its registration details or in the certificate of conformity (CoC). Choose a load index at least as high as the one specified for the car and a speed rating in line with the car manufacturer's instructions. Heavy cars, including many electric cars, often need XL tyres – read more about load markings. Under the Road Traffic Act, tyres on the same axle must be identical in size, construction and characteristics, so replace tyres at least one axle at a time.
Summer and winter sets on their own wheels
In Finland, cars must use winter tyres from November to March if weather or road conditions require it, so most drivers have two sets: summer tyres and winter tyres. When each set has its own wheels, the tyres do not have to come off the rims at every seasonal change, and you can swap the wheels yourself. Store the set you take off somewhere dry and cool, out of direct sunlight.
